my story

I was diagnosed with severe Scoliosis at age ten. At age eleven the orthopedic doctors and specialists wanted to perform surgery - I searched for another way. I wore a Milwaukee Brace for five years, but I still had significant curvature and consistent pain in my back and neck.  I began to subscribe to negative thoughts of chronic pain that dimmed my outlook on life.  I felt depressed, awkward, uncoordinated, reclusive. I studied piano at Oberlin. I accumulated some negative physical and mental habits of tension.

In 1987 I reconnected with a friend from college, who seemed physically transformed in a way - she carried herself gracefully and seemed happier and confident. Her music career was taking off.  I asked her what happened to her - she seemed so different in many positive ways.  That was the first time I heard of the Alexander Technique.

I began taking lessons. AT helped me in every aspect of my life - physically, mentally and spiritually. I knew this was what I wanted to offer to other people.  I have practiced AT in my life for over 32 years, and I’ve been teaching for two. My appreciation has only increased. After raising a family and teaching high school ceramics and art, I was able to complete my training. I can finally devote my time to teaching AT full time.
